TRI Demos SPI, AXI, AOI, Board Test at Nepcon China 2010

2010/04/13

Taipei, Taiwan (April 9, 2010) – Test Research Inc. (TRI, TAIEX 3030) – the only provider of end-to-end test solutions for SMT manufacturing – today announced that it would give live demos of its products at Nepcon China 2010, to be held at Shanghai’s Everbright Convention & Exhibition Center April 20-22. Test systems for each phase of the manufacturing process from Solder Paste Inspection (SPI), to Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), Automated X-ray Inspection (AXI) and In-Circuit Testing (ICT) will all be shown at TRI’s booth #4F06

At the beginning of the electronics manufacturing process is Solder Paste Inspection. TRI will have two SPI systems on display. The new TR7007 is the industry’s fastest solder paste inspection (SPI) system. It is a 64-bit, 3D SPI system for mid- to high-volume manufacturing. The TR7007’s inspection speed is a blazing 171cm2/sec at 14 micrometers resolution and 87cm2/sec at 10 micrometers. In addition, the TR7007 implements a new “fringe pattern” technology and a dual lighting system that eliminates shadows and provides the best possible defect detection. The TR7007 also uses a linear motor for smoother, more accurate imaging. The entry-level TR7006 features high-speed optical inspection of 76cm2/sec at 20um resolution.

X-ray inspection technology can see through PCBs and hard-to-inspect components to check their connections to the PCB. TRI’s TR7600 is an AXI test system that provides in-line inspection for high-density components such as Flip Chips and BGAs, and micro-components down to 0201 and 01005. The system uses X-ray penetration to capture images using nine CCDs at different angles. Software developed in-house by TRI analyzes the slice images and calculates the different slice heights to inspect for PCB defects.

Optical inspection can take place pre- or post-reflow, inline or at a standalone station. TRI’s inline AOI solutions include the TR7700, that features a large-format digital 3CCD full-color camera and can scan up to 130cm2/sec@18 m m, and the TR7500, which combines a top-view digital 3CCD full-color camera plus 4 angle cameras to provide the most complete AOI coverage in its class. A desktop, standalone system will also be at TRI’s booth. The TR7530DT comes with a high-end digital 3 CCD full-color camera for clear capture of board images and is equipped with an ultra-low angle, coaxial RGB LED lighting system for efficient off-line defect detection.

“Greater China is leading the global economic recovery and our customers in the region are demanding both new systems with the latest technology and proven cost-effective test solutions,” said Jim Lin, TRI’s Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing. “Our Nepcon China booth will demonstrate TRI’s global leadership in the testing industry.”

After a board has been fully assembled, it needs to be fully tested. TRI’s TR5001 and TR8100LV are the latest models in TRI’s industry-leading ICT product line, with well over 1,200 systems deployed worldwide. The TR8100LV is TRI’s full-featured model for large, complex PCBAs. The TR5001 is a cost effective analog/digital tester with a variety of upgrade options from MDA to on-board programming and boundary-scan. In addition, TRI will also be showing two patented limited-access board test technologies. ToggleScan is an enhancement to the IEEE 1149 Boundary-Scan, and VregTest introduces a new no-access test method for crowded motherboards.
